The University of Cambridge, School of Clinical Medicine, is seeking an experienced HR Adviser to join its dedicated HR team. This is an exceptional opportunity for an HR professional to contribute meaningfully in a dynamic and impactful environment. The position is offered on a fixed-term basis of up to 12 months to cover maternity leave.

About the Role:

As part of the HR team based at the Cambridge Biomedical Campus, you will provide operational support to ensure the delivery of high-quality HR services. Reporting to an HR Business Partner, you will play a pivotal role in supporting your client areas with business partnering, resourcing, and administrative HR functions.

The School of Clinical Medicine HR Team offers a wide range of HR, recruitment, and clinical services to staff, new hires, and visitors across multiple departments and institutes. Supporting over 3,000 colleagues—including 410 clinical staff and 190 team members on CRUK/MRC legacy terms—as well as over 1,000 visitors, this team is instrumental in fostering a collaborative, high-performing, and inclusive work environment.

In this role, you will support workforce planning and ensure alignment with the evolving operational needs of the School, HR, and NHS priorities. Additionally, you will contribute to the development and implementation of both university-wide and School-specific HR policies and initiatives, including those unique to the clinical and academic landscape.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide advisory support to stakeholders, ensuring timely and effective HR solutions.
  • Partner with colleagues to develop workforce plans aligned with operational objectives.
  • Assist in implementing HR initiatives that enhance employee engagement and organizational performance.
  • Collaborate across the HR division and with external partners to contribute to policy development and operational improvements.
  • Promote equality, diversity, and inclusion through HR practices and strategies.

About You

To succeed in this role, you will have:

  • Proven experience in providing HR advisory support to diverse stakeholders.
  • Strong knowledge of HR best practices, employment law, and policy development.
  • Excellent communication and relationship-building skills to influence and collaborate effectively.
  • A commitment to fostering an inclusive workplace and championing equality, diversity, and inclusion.
  • Relevant HR qualifications or certifications (CIPD or equivalent) are advantageous.
