At the  Department of Physiology Anatomy & Genetics (DPAG) we undertake discovery science where we reassemble physiological processes at the molecular, cellular, tissue and systems level of organisation. In so doing we provide a bridge to translational medicine, and interface between physical and life sciences. Overview of the role:

We are seeking an experienced HR professional to join our team as HR Team Leader on a 12-month maternity cover (from July 2025). Reporting to the Head of HR, you’ll manage the day-to-day HR operations for the department, supervising two HR Advisors and one HR Assistant. You’ll be CIPD qualified at graduate level (or working towards it), with strong employment law knowledge, excellent communication, organisational skills, and a commitment to confidentiality and stakeholder engagement. Secondment applications are welcomed. 

Key responsibilities:

  • Supervise and support a small HR team in delivering efficient services.
  • Advise managers on staffing, contracts, employee cases, and policy compliance.
  • Support the end-of-fixed-term contract process.
  • Plan, update, and implement new departmental HR policy.
  • Provide reports and updates to senior management.
  • Contribute to divisional HR groups and deputise for the Head of HR when needed.
  • Maintain oversight of monthly payroll changes. 

Selection criteria:

  • Proven experience in an HR role with supervisory responsibilities
  • CIPD qualified at graduate level or working towards it.
  • Strong knowledge of UK employment law and HR systems.
  • Excellent communication, organisation, and attention to detail.
  • Ability to handle sensitive information appropriately.
