Job Summary

Applications are invited for a Senior Project Coordinator post in the Department of Infectious Disease Epidemiology based at the White City Campus of Imperial College London. The department undertakes leading interdisciplinary research on infectious diseases, using approaches ranging from molecular epidemiology, through field research, to mathematical studies of transmission dynamics and disease control. A wide range of pathogens are studied, including HIV, influenza viruses, several major bacterial pathogens, BSE, vCJD, foot-and-mouth disease and a variety of parasitic infections. The department offers excellent research facilities and a friendly, intellectually stimulating working environment.

Duties and responsibilities

  • To regularly engage with project staff in the UK and Ethiopia in order to stay up to date with current research activities as well as the needs of the project staff
  • To build and maintain relationships with collaborators in Ethiopia and the funder CIFF
  • To oversee activities of a research group working on the epidemiology and control of neglected tropical diseases (NTDs) based in the department of infectious disease epidemiology
  • To manage and execute all logistics around endline events, suppliers and procurement of material for the project delivery to Ethiopia 
  • To liaise with international partners on project matters and procurement
  • To manage the cost effective data analysis and publication of results
  • To organise meetings with project staff and funders to communicate results
  • To contribute to publications, reports and documents; facilitate their distribution, including distribution to specific workshops, meetings and conferences
  • To assist in preparation of presentations and various education materials
  • To promote research findings, including workshops, meetings and conferences
  • To provide logistical and operational support to project staff and the PI when required
  • To promote the results of the project internally and externally
  • Some travel to Ethiopia will be necessary for meetings with implementers of the control project

Essential requirements

Candidates will have an interest in infectious disease epidemiology and a bachelor’s degree in the relevant field.   

  • Experience of grant management and reporting
  • Experience in member engagement and/or internal & external relationship management
  • Experience of data gathering and analysis
  • Ability to present information effectively at meetings, and give positive input to discussions at meetings
  • Ability to work independently but also as part of a team
  • The capacity to work to tight deadlines in a busy environment with competing demands
  • Ability to organise own work with minimal supervision
  • Willingness to work as part of a team and to be open-minded and cooperative
  • Excellent organisational skills
  • A meticulous approach and attention to detail

Hybrid working may be considered for this role.  Staff working in roles that are suitable for hybrid working will normally be expected to work 60% of their time onsite. The opportunity for hybrid working will be discussed at interview.
