Faculty / Directorate
We are looking for a highly experienced professional, who is motivated by the importance of excellence in research and the difference this can make on our global society. The Research Excellence Manager plays a key role in the delivery of the University’s Strategy, particularly in terms of academic research quality, visibility and influence. The post-holder will work closely with the academic community to develop and lead an enhanced service to further develop our research excellence. They will manage the research planning and review cycle, and implement initiatives to ensure that all research is high quality and impactful in preparation for future research assessment exercises. They will also produce regular reports to assist University leaders in understanding the scale, scope and quality of research outputs and outcomes, using appropriate analytical tools. In addition, they will lead on key initiatives to strengthen the excellence and sustainability of the University’s research environment.
Role
The post holder will be a source of professional advice on all matters relating to research excellence and also HEFCE related research matters within the University ensuring that relevant processes are efficient and effective. Additionally, the role holder will represent the University internally and externally on matters relating to academic research excellence, quality, impact achievements, and their visibility and influence. The role holder will have a proven track record in research excellence, related policy and impact management as well as experience of providing central administrative support and organisation for a Research Excellence Framework (REF) submission.
Ideal Candidate
The Research Excellence Manager will report to and work closely with the Research Governance and Impact Manager. Work closely with the Director of Research, Business and Innovation and the APVC Research to develop, implement and improve University systems, processes and polices as well as supporting the strategic and operational planning of research and research performance, including monitoring.
This will include designing and implementing systems and analytical tools to monitor the quality of research and research impact. Provide expert advice, project management and oversight of preparatory work for the next REF exercise and its final submission. This will include devising strategies that promote and enable research excellence, as well as developing and managing the cycle of research quality. Work in partnership with, and provide expert advice to, the REF Steering Group, Faculty Deans and Associate Deans for Research & innovation and Research Institute Directors.
