Our Human Resources Business Partnering team is highly valued for the quality of its HR advice and support. We’re excited to be recruiting an additional Employee Relations Advisor to support our Business Partnering team with practical hands-on support for disciplinary, grievance, performance management and sickness absence casework.
Main duties and responsibilities
You will play a pivotal part in guiding and supporting managers on all employee relations matters, from coaching managers through informal inquiries to formal stages, including investigations and panel hearings. You will handle a variety of people-related issues efficiently and effectively, such as contractual matters as well as the full range of HR policies and guidance for the full employee lifecycle.
Building and maintaining positive professional relationships with our HR Business Partners and Strategic Business Units (SBUs) will be a key aspect of your work. Your proactive approach will help promote good employee relations across the University, including working in partnership with recognised trade union representatives. Additionally, you will work closely with HR Business Partners (HRBPs) in delivering workshops to managers, enhancing their confidence and competency in dealing with employee relations issues.
You will use this knowledge to inform policy and practice, contributing to HR policy development and project work that aligns with the University's objectives. Your involvement will also include assisting with the implementation of new and revised policies and procedures. Collaborating closely with HR Business Partners, and other HR Team members you will produce statistical and management information as required.
Skills and experience required
Appropriate proven HR case work management experience, including but not limited to disciplinary processes, grievance, absence management and claims of harassment and bullying and Demonstrable experience in analysing and risk-managing cases, delivering appropriate solutions are essential for this role. You will also have experience of advising staff and managers and experience of working with trade unions.
To be successful in this position you will need a keen eye for detail, excellent interpersonal skills, and a strong understanding of employment law and HR practices. Staying updated on developments in employment legislation, case law, and best practices in the UK is essential in this role.
Qualifications required
You will be educated with a professional HR qualification and a degree or equivalent qualification.
