About the Role

Can you help make a difference?

CenSCE aims to increase the number of people from disadvantaged or under-represented backgrounds, accessing and succeeding at university.

We take a whole educational journey approach to this. Education is not simply a series of adjacent stages. It should be a journey that flows through interlocking phases, drawing on a wider set of resources: friends, carers, university staff, course peers and extra-curricular opportunities.

Within this role, you will work in the Collaborative Engagement and Retention Team to coordinate our Student Mentoring programme, helping to build a strong and supportive community alongside our current students.

Building a great team, for us, means creating a diverse team. We are genuinely looking for talented individuals who can bring their skills, a different outlook, and provide alternative perspectives when working to find solutions. As a team, the skills we build will complement each other and we aim for an environment that provides plenty of opportunity to learn, grow and develop together.

This role requires candidates to be available to work Wednesdays on Campus.

What are we looking for?

We are looking for a Student Mentoring Officer to provide support, training, and guidance to our dedicated team of Student Mentors, enabling them to engage with first-year students across their course.

We know that when students feel supported, and part of their university community, they are more likely to thrive and succeed. A key part of this role is to work alongside colleagues from our Academic Schools to support our Student Mentors to develop and plan initiatives, events, and activities to enhance engagement, a sense of belonging and community.

We are looking for an excellent communicator with the ability to build rapport and influence stakeholders across the university to achieve results. You’d also be creative, organised, and able to develop practice through responding to data, student voice, and evaluation. You’ll help motivate and develop our Student Mentors to get the best out of their engagement with their role, so if you have a passion for working closely with student staff or volunteers then we would love to hear from you.

Interview Date: Friday 25th October 2024

For more details, please take a look at the role profile. We'll still consider applications even if you don't meet every single one of the requirements, so don't be put off if you don't match them perfectly.
