Departmental Administrative Assistant

UCL - Department of Imaging Neuroscience

Location: London
Salary: £35,630 to £41,005
Hours: Full Time
Contract Type: Permanent
Placed On: 31st January 2025
Closes: 13th February 2025
Job Ref: B02-08266

The Department of Imaging Neuroscience is an interdisciplinary department for neuroimaging excellence. We bring together clinicians and scientists who study higher cognitive function using neuroimaging techniques. Our goal is to understand how thought and perception arise from brain activity, and how such processes break down in neurological and psychiatric disease. The Department studies all aspects of higher cognitive function and develops cutting edge data acquisition and analysis methods.

Working closely with the Departmental Administrative Officer, the Departmental Administrative Assistant (DAA) works as part of a wider administrative team, and alongside a second DAA, to ensure the smooth day-to-day operation of the department and to ensure that those visiting the department, in particular volunteers taking part in studies, are greeted courteously, helpfully, and professionally.

Based in the Departmental Reception you will act as a key and first point of contact for the Department’s visitors, staff, and researchers. The DAA is a busy, varied, and interesting role that offers you the opportunity to gain experience across a wide variety of administrative activities.

If you need reasonable adjustments or a more accessible format to apply for this job online, or have any queries regarding the application process, please contact the Institute of Neurology HR Team ().

Informal enquiries regarding the role can be addressed to Departmental Administrative Officer Sheila White (Sheila.).

The role requires interaction with many people within and external to UCL and requires a highly organised and efficient individual with a professional attitude, willingness to help, and the ability to remain diplomatic and tactful at all times in order to successfully execute their duties.

You will have a good standard of general education to A level/NVQ Level IV administration or equivalent or have equivalent professional experience. Experience of providing a successful administrative support function, ideally in a university, medical, or research environment, with proven skills in a public and/or staff-facing role is essential. You will also have an understanding of data protection regulations, experience of maintaining confidentiality, and excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

This role does not meet the eligibility requirements for a Skilled Worker Visa certificate of sponsorship under UK Visas and Immigration legislation. Therefore UCL will not be able to sponsor individuals who require right to work in the UK to carry out this role.

As well as the exciting opportunities this role presents, we also offer some great benefits; visit https://www.ucl.ac.uk/work-at-ucl/reward-and-benefits to find out more.
