The University of Buckingham has a unique atmosphere, unlike that of any other higher educational institution. Despite being one of the UK’s smallest university and the only independent university to hold a Royal Charter, Buckingham has staff from over 60 countries, making it a truly distinctive work environment.  Whichever of our locations you find yourself working in, you will be sure to feel a part of our friendly community.  Our size enables us to foster personalised, supportive, inclusive, collaborative environment, with lots of opportunity for development, something which we are very proud of.

The Corporate and Professional Services departments are the cornerstone of the University.  They each provide essential and valuable support to both each other and the Academic departments, helping the University to function in the most efficient and productive way, ensuring that the students’ experience is second to none.

Role purpose:

The main purpose of the Employer Engagement Officer role is to engage employers from organisations of all size in activities that support our students to develop employability skills. This includes managing the University’s micro-internship scheme, B-Enterprising, working with academic colleagues to support the provision of in-curriculum placements, sourcing guest speakers and organising employer events (virtual and campus-based) for students. You will be working within a very small team, in close partnership with the Careers and Employability Manager to ensure the smooth running of a high-quality Careers and Employability Service for our students.

As such, this is a great opportunity for someone looking for a broad role within a small department where there is plenty of scope to contribute your ideas to shaping and trailing new employability initiatives, as well as operating an established and well-regarded micro-internship scheme.

Skills and experience:

You will be passionate about the value of helping students to develop employability skills and enjoy networking with professionals at any level of seniority. You will also be highly organised and have an eye for detail in order to operate the micro-internship scheme effectively. Ideally you will have experience of employer engagement, project management and an understanding of how students can develop their employability. For further details, please refer to the Role Profile.

We know that sometimes people can be put off applying for a job if they think they can’t tick every box, but we are invested in our people and their development, so we encourage you to apply if you believe you have the majority of the skills and experience required and are keen to develop further!

What can we offer you?

We might be small, but we can still offer plenty of perks!  In addition to an Aviva Pension scheme, we offer:

  • Beautiful working environment
  • EAP
  • Christmas closure
  • On-site gym
  • On-site catering facilities
  • University bookshop
  • Free parking
  • Excellent opportunities to network and learning
  • Discount of courses

Informal enquiries may be made to Iga Rodriguez Martinez:  iga.rodriguez@buckingham.ac.uk.

The closing date for applications is 14th January with interviews taking place on the 21st January 2025.

Please note: if successful, any offer is subject to standard checks, including qualifications, eligibility to work in the UK on a permanent basis and DBS (if applicable)
