The Faculty of Modern and Medieval Languages and Linguistics (MMLL), in conjunction with Cambridge Film & Screen, seeks to appoint a new full-time Assistant Professorship in Asian Film and Media to start from 1 September 2025.

The purpose of this post is to broaden and deepen teaching and research interests in MMLL and Cambridge Film and Screen, the centre that houses our MPhil and PhD programmes in Film and Screen Studies.

We seek candidates with research and teaching specialisms in one or more of the following areas: comparative and transnational studies; media history and theory; gender and sexuality studies; cultural and social activism; environmental humanities; the study of migration and diaspora. We welcome candidates whose research and/or teaching demonstrates the potential for collaborative or cross-disciplinary work.

The appointee will be expected to make significant contributions to teaching and supervision on the MPhil in Film and Screen Studies, and to attract and supervise high-calibre doctoral students. The appointee will also make contributions to teaching film and media at the undergraduate level in MMLL, AMES and the School of Arts and Humanities. The role includes an active contribution to the administration of the MPhil in Film and Screen Studies, to Cambridge Film and Screen, and, as appropriate, to MMLL.

Candidates will have successfully completed a PhD in a relevant field by the start date for the post, possess relevant and demonstrable teaching experience, and have a record of excellence in publishing research, commensurate with career stage.
