Renumeration: £48,350 per annum (pro-rata) + Benefits equivalent to £6,200
HBU-UCLan School of Media, Communication and Creative Industries, was established in 2014 and is a non-independent status Joint School partnership between Hebei University, China and the University of Central Lancashire, UK (approved by the Ministry of Education China).
HBU-UCLan currently has around 800 students which will significantly increase to 1200 over the next few years. Students study the following UCLan degree programmes:
International Foundation Year
Building on our success, the University of Central Lancashire now seeks to appoint a qualified and highly experienced English for Academic Purposes (EAP) practitioner in the role as Academic English and Language Skills Co-ordinator.
The role
The role is of considerable significance in the development of English provision across the school.
The post-holder will provide academic leadership for the International Foundation Year programme, an integral part of the four-year undergraduate degree programme, delivering English for Academic Purposes (EAP). This is a credit-bearing programme, designed to develop the English language and communication skills necessary for students to fully engage in their Creative Industries based academic degree programmes.
The post-holder will also lead the development of further English support across the BA (Hons) and Masters programmes to support the continuation of the student skills acquired in year 1 of their academic programme.
This opportunity offers application for a support package for PhD study at UCLan.
Education, qualifcations & experience
The successful candidate will be a qualified EAP practitioner and should have a good honours degree (or equivalent) in a relevant English or Arts and Media subject, an MA in a related EAP discipline, and hold a relevant professional/teaching qualification such as CELTA/DELTA or equivalent.
A track record of course development, assessment as well as extensive experience of teaching and supervising students in an overseas Higher Education or Foundation level institution is essential. We require a team orientated person, who is also able to lead a team of EAP lecturers collaboratively and effectively.
The successful candidate will continue to build, extend and improve English language provision at HBU-UCLan. The post-holder will need to be east and west facing, with the aim of building further positive academic relationships between the two universities, and to create new opportunities.

Summary of benefits
Citizenship and Chinese visa regulations
Teaching posts at HBU-UCLan are regulated by Chinese Labour Law and Hebei Provincial Government regulations. These regulations stipulate that the post holder must have a Master’s degree qualification (in a related discipline). A proven track record of a minimum of two consecutive years relevant experience of teaching English for Academic and/or English for Specific Purposes at university or Foundation year level, is required to obtain a work visa in China.
For this type of post, they require the post holder to be a native or near-native level English speaker with citizenship of the UK, Ireland, USA, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, India, or South Africa.
The post-holder must comply with Chinese Labour Laws and Hebei Provincial Government regulations to obtain a Chinese work permit, and entry Z visa (restrictions apply). This includes a Police/Criminal Records Check and Health Check. These regulations stipulate who is eligible to work, legally, with regard to obtaining work permits and visas. The regulations in this province may prevent people over the age of 60 from obtaining a PRC work visa.
