De Montfort University is an ambitious, globally minded institution with a clear focus on delivering high-quality teaching and research. A culturally rich university with a strong commitment to the public good, it strives to maintain a stimulating, innovative and inclusive environment where staff and students can thrive.
Faculty / Directorate
DMU is proud to have one of the most diverse staff and student populations in the UK, and we are committed to supporting everyone in reaching their full potential in an environment where differences are accepted, valued, celebrated, and supported. As the first UK institution to receive a Silver Award for the Race Equality Charter (REC), we have also earned 2nd place in the 2024 Stonewall Workplace Equality Index, ranked among the top 100 LGBTQ+ employers.
In addition, we have renewed our Bronze level Athena Swan award and continue to strive for the top ‘Leader’ level in the Disability Confident Charter. Our students are among our greatest assets, with more than half identifying as Black, Asian, or from other ethnically minoritised backgrounds, and we support one of the largest disabled student populations in the UK. Through our award-winning universal design for learning and comprehensive student welfare provision, we empower all students to reach their full potential.
Role
DMU is seeking an Equality, Diversity and Inclusion Office Coordinator to play a pivotal role in leading the coordination of the EDI office services, functions and activities, alongside providing essential support to the EDI team and its associated stakeholders across DMU campuses.
In this role, you will be responsible for supporting and overseeing the EDI Office and Hub service provision, including working with key internal and external stakeholders, handling the EDI inbox, and supporting the organisation of key events. You will also maintain accurate and up-to-date mailing lists, ensuring smooth communication across the university. Additionally, you will provide some project management support, assisting with tracking the progress of EDI initiatives. A key part of your role will be maintaining a detailed, diarised schedule of all EDI Office activities, ensuring that projects and initiatives remain on track and well-coordinated across the institution.
Ideal Candidate
The successful candidate for the role of EDI Office Coordinator will be a proactive and highly organised office manager who is passionate about inclusion, people, and education. This individual will act as the central point of contact for all equality, diversity, and inclusion activities within the EDI Office, focusing particularly on supporting DMU staff and students engaged in this field. In this essential position, the coordinator will ensure the smooth operation of the office by developing and maintaining efficient systems and processes for managing, communicating, and disseminating information. They will oversee various services provided by the EDI Office, including the EDI Hub, staff networks, and EDI champions, ensuring effective routines are established to support the seamless functioning of these services and the office as a whole.
As a highly motivated office coordinator and team player, you will understand the dynamics of working in a small team within a large and complex organisation. Key responsibilities will include establishing and maintaining processes and routines for effective communication and acting as a point of contact for queries from Networks, Students, Faculties, Departments, and Professional Services.
