Institute Manager – Institute of Classical Studies
The University of London is a leading UK provider of distance and digital education internationally, offering programmes to 45,000 students in 190 countries around the world. Although proudly rooted in London, our community and impact are global.
We are a national leader in the humanities, and we promote their value to society and the economy through knowledge creation and exchange.
Our passion for increasing access to education and mobilising the collective power and expertise of the federation is central to our ability to transform lives around the world and address the global challenges of the future.
The Institute of Classical Studies (ICS) is the UK’s national centre for advancing and supporting research in Classics and related disciplines. It forms part of the School of Advanced Study, which is funded by Research England to support and advance the humanities.
The ICS’s remit covers the cultures of the ancient Mediterranean and neighbouring lands, from prehistory to Late Antiquity, and encompassing languages and literature, art and archaeology, history and philosophy, and reception. It welcomes visiting fellows, runs a programme of seminars, guest lectures and conferences, provides advanced researcher training, small grants, and is home to one of the world’s leading classical research libraries, developed and operated in partnership with the Societies for the Promotion of Hellenic Studies and Roman Studies.
The Role
The Institute Manager is a crucial professional staff role within the ICS. The Manager manages and co-ordinates the day to day running of the Institute and collaborates closely with the ICS Director, the Librarian of the Combined Classics Library, and other academic and professional staff across the School to realise the ICS’s mission of support for the national and international classical researcher community and the Institute’s role in the School’s strategic plan.
