The National Institute of Teaching (NIoT) aims to improve teacher professional development through rigorous, impactful, and cutting-edge school-led research. Our research team plays a key role in this mission, as we work with our programme-delivery teams to test approaches to delivery and respond to the needs and questions of schools and our partner organisations in the education sector. 

As a Research Impact Assistant at the NIoT, you will work with a team of dedicated professionals who are working to ensure that what we learn about effective training and development programmes has maximum positive impact on practice and policy within the NIoT and across the wider sector.  

This will involve finding useful and innovative ways to share research findings but also actively inviting dialogue, feedback and contributions from educators, policy makers and other stakeholders to enrich the research we do. We want a system where information flows in multiple directions, ensuring that the research conducted is responsive to the needs of the education sector and that its findings are integrated into practice.   

This is a new and exciting approach to embedding research within practice in education, and we work collaboratively to continually evolve and strengthen our approach to making research useful in teacher education practice. 

Main Duties & Key Responsibilities

You will support the Head of Impact and work with other colleagues to:

  • Engage with the education sector: Actively involve educators, policymakers, and stakeholders in a dialogue to gather feedback and contributions that enhance research quality and application
  • Research findings: Test innovative methods to share and build research insights with the aim of improving professional development for teachers and leaders.
  • Content creation: Support the writing of accessible blog posts and articles that communicate research findings and insights
  • Event support: Assist in organising and delivering events
  • Impact analysis: Monitor, evaluate and report on the impact of our work
  • Coordination: Provide coordination and project management of the impact work

Essential Criteria

  • A commitment to the vision and mission of the National Institute of Teaching
  • Experience in the education sector, research sector or both.
  • Experience in supporting research evidence mobilisation and use, ideally in education.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, ability to engage a variety of stakeholders and make complicated concepts accessible to a broad audience
  • Commitment to working with schools in a collaborative and dialogic manner

Desirable Criteria

  • Proven interest and /or experience of the English teacher training and professional development landscape
  • Knowledge of research relevant to teacher training and professional development
  • Experience in policy development or influencing
  • Understanding of research methodologies

Working at the National Institute of Teaching

Contract: Permanent Full Time (Part time considered)

Salary:  £32,076 -£33,945 per annum + benefits
