We have an exciting opportunity in the Department of Psychology for an enthusiastic Research Assistant. Motor neurone disease (MND) is a debilitating condition that causes muscle weakness. As part of the condition, brain becomes 'overactive' well before symptoms start and is critical to disease progression. Non-invasive brain stimulation allows for development of protocols which could potentially help generate interventions for modifying brain activity and management of the symptoms.
You will be working with Dr Alekhya Mandali on a project that aims to design neuromodulation protocols that target brain activity in healthy volunteers. The outcome of the project will help identify protocols that have maximum impact on brain activity.
The Research assistant will be responsible for undertaking research related activities from recruitment to data collection and analysis. The post holder will also be involved in focus groups with people diagnosed with this condition to assess acceptability of this intervention.
The Psychology Department at the University of Sheffield is among the largest in the UK and has been consistently ranked as one of the outstanding research departments in all seven UK Research Assessment Exercises to date. Over 90% of our department’s research was classed as internationally excellent or world leading in the 2021 Research Excellence Framework.
