Research Assistant/Officer (PPSI)

About The Role

This is a Fixed Term role until November 2027 working full-time.

We are recruiting for an exciting position within our Population, Psychiatry, Suicide and Informatics (PPSI) team: This is one role for either a Research Assistant (Grade 7) or a Research Officer (Grade 8). The role offers unique opportunities to contribute to cutting-edge mental health research led by Prof. Ann John, co-director of DATAMIND and leader of the Data Science theme at the Wolfson Centre for Young People’s Mental Health.

As a Research Assistant, you will:

• Create mental health phenotypes using clinical code systems and data-driven techniques
• Conduct surveys to enhance mental health research platforms
• Collaborate on research questions using large databases and machine learning methods
• Undertake complex data analyses and contribute to research papers

The Research Officer role involves:

• Leading the development of mental health phenotypes and data-driven research
• Designing and conducting surveys to improve research infrastructure
• Spearheading collaborative projects using advanced epidemiological and machine learning approaches
• Contributing to grant applications and project management

This position requires proficiency in programming (Python, R, SQL) and a strong background in epidemiology or health data science. You'll work with cutting-edge resources like the SAIL Databank, contributing to impactful research that shapes mental health policies and interventions.

Welsh Language Skills

The Welsh language level required for this role is Level 1 - A little. The role holder will be able to pronounce Welsh words, answer the phone in Welsh (good morning/afternoon) and use very basic everyday words and phrases (thank you, please etc.). Level 1 can be reached by completing a 1 hour course.
