The Department of Psychological Sciences and Health at Strathclyde University is seeking to appoint a Research Assistant/ Associate (Post Doc) to a project awarded funding from Parkinson’s UK. You will work with Prof Anja Lowit and Dr Anja Kuschmann on the project ‘Supporting communication difficulties in people living with Parkinson’s – a pilot study of language treatment’. The project aims to co-develop the language treatment and pilot its feasibility and acceptability.

Under the general guidance of the PI and Co-I, you will be responsible for recruitment to the clinical trial in liaison with the local NHS boards, run co-development workshops with stakeholders, develop the treatment package, collect pre-and post-treatment data from people with Parkinson’s, coordinate treatment provision with SLTs, conduct quantitative and qualitative analyses of the data and evaluate the findings in discussion with the research team. You will write up research work for publication, individually or in collaboration with the team, and disseminate the results via peer reviewed journal publications, presentation at conferences and knowledge exchange events.

To be considered for the role, you will be educated to PhD level in speech and language therapy or being close to completion or have significant professional experience in addition to a relevant degree. You will have knowledge of acquired language impairment in adult populations, and the assessment and treatment of this client group. Experience of co-development, handling data, quantitative and qualitative research methods, and statistical analyses would be an advantage in this post. You will have an ability to conduct individual research work, to disseminate results and to prepare research proposals, with assistance if required. You will be able to plan, organise and prioritise your own workload and be able to work within a team environment. Finally, you will have excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to listen, engage and persuade, and to present complex information in an accessible way to a range of audiences.

Whilst a Post-Doctoral Research Associate is ideally sought for this position; applications from candidates who are close to PhD completion or whose award is pending, are welcome. In such circumstances, the appointment will be made at Research Assistant level (RS06 salary scale £ 32,546 -£ 36,130) and duties will be adjusted to reflect the grade of the post. This will continue until the PhD award is confirmed, at which point the duties and grade will be revised accordingly.

Formal interviews for this post will be held on Wednesday, 7 May 2025

Informal enquiries about the post can be directed to Prof Anja Lowit (a.lowit @strath.ac.uk).
