About the Role
We are looking for two postdoctoral researchers to work on an exciting new project funded by Cancer Research UK (CRUK). You will work on a range of studies designed to build policy-relevant evidence on public and patient attitudes and communication needs in relation to complex issues in cancer screening and diagnosis. The project will involve designing and delivering novel, policy-focused research on two to three research topics (including prostate cancer). Based at our Charterhouse Square/Whitechapel campuses, you will be coordinating and chairing collaborative meetings, designing studies, writing protocols, collecting data and disseminating findings. This two-year project will involve collaborative working with behavioural science colleagues in the Centre for Cancer Screening, Prevention, and Early Diagnosis and the University of Cambridge, the Policy, Information and Communication Directorate at CRUK and Public and Patient Involvement (PPI) representatives.
About You
Applicants should have a PhD (or close to completion) in applied health-related social science (e.g. health psychology, medical anthropology, public health). Applicants require experience of running research studies and managing and analysing data related to psychological and behavioural aspects of cancer early diagnosis (e.g. risk perceptions, screening uptake, shared decision-making), or another non-communicable disease context. Excellent self-motivation and communications skills, experience of qualitative data collection and experience of working with PPI representatives across the research lifecycle are essential.
About the Institute
The Wolfson Institute of Population Health (WIPH) is an exciting and dynamic environment, home to 450 staff, 100 PhD students and c500 postgraduate taught students. It harnesses expertise across a wide range of population-based research and education activities and aims to be an internationally recognised centre of excellence in population health, primary care and preventive medicine. The Institute is organised into six separate research centres which, though complementary and following the Institute strategic plan, also have Centre-specific objectives and requirements.
The Centre for Cancer Screening, Prevention and Early Diagnosis forms part of the WIPH and brings together globally leading researchers focusing on cancer prevention, cancer screening and detection and early diagnosis across three units including the CRUK-funded Cancer Prevention Trials Unit. CCSPED also hosts the cross-cutting Cancer Behavioural Science group.
