About the Role
Archipelago Technology Group is a small, growing, Cambridge-based company, founded in 2012. They create technology for printing, coating, and high-value manufacturing. Archipelago's Powerdrop technology is transformational and it enables viscous chemicals (e.g. adhesives, paints, coatings, inks and more) to be applied on substrates much more effectively. In particular, it allows shaped paper packaging to be made water- and oil-proof, and thus to provide a recyclable alternative to plastic packaging for food products. The KTP Associate will be working right at the heart of the scientific development of Powerdrop and the process of coating paper-based substrates. The Associate will work at Archipelago in Cambridge and at QMUL in London.
About You
You will have a PhD in an engineering, physics, chemistry or related discipline. Exceptional MSc / MEng candidates may be considered when they also have strong relevant industrial experience. You will have good mathematical data analysis, interpretation skills and concise report writing skills. Proficiency with Python and CAD is required. You should have the ability to organise and prioritise own work. Prior knowledge in capillary flows, surfactants, coatings, modelling and coding is desirable.
About the School/Department/Institute/Project
The KTP associate will be based at the premises of Archipelago Technologies in Cambridge and as required at the School of Engineering and Material Sciences (SEMS) at QMUL, Miles End.
The School of Engineering and Material Sciences (SEMS) was ranked 7th in Engineering in the recent REF 2021. The associate will have access to the research equipment in the laboratories, and will be part of the surface science group in SEMS.
