Annual Leave: 25 days plus standard public holidays and an additional 4 days including the closure of our office between Christmas and New Year

Main duties and responsibilities
Applicants must be able to provide advice to staff and students in SPECS on matters of health, safety, and regulatory compliance within the laboratories run by the School. To assist in the further developments of Health and Safety policy within the School technical labs and workshops.
You will be responsible for the preparation of materials and equipment for practical, commercial and short course classes as required in one or more areas of the school. This will involve support for specialist techniques in a laboratory/workshop environment area for both undergraduate and postgraduate students and occasional support in other areas within the school. To assist with the assessment of health and safety risks and the identification of reasonably practical control measures.
You will be expected to promote Health, Safety, and Regulatory Compliance within the School in a professional manner focusing on the strategic objectives of the School and University. You will maintain an awareness of developments in health, safety and regulatory compliance relating to the School of SPECS, attending relevant meetings and training events.
Skills and experience needed
Considerable practical experience of working in a laboratory in a relevant subject, e.g., Chemistry, Biology, STEM in a technical role. Experience in completion of COSHH and Risk Assessments. Experience in health and safety management in a subject are relevant to STEM, Chemistry, Biology or similar. Substantial proven experience in conducting H&S inspections/audits and experience as a Trainer would be desirable.
Ideally you will have previous customer service experience. You will have strong IT skills including the use of Microsoft Office. Excellent verbal and written communication skills are essential. In addition, you will have a good understanding of customer care and the ability to put this in to practice. You will have a positive “can do” attitude, be flexible and adaptable in approach and you’ll be motivated to learn new skills.
You will need to demonstrate strong attention to detail and good organisational and interpersonal skills.
Qualifications required
Educated with a minimum of a degree in STEM, Chemistry, Biology subject or related subject or equivalent work experience.
