An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Research Assistant within the Academic Unit, Mental Health and Clinical Neurosciences to join our vibrant and multidisciplinary team at NIHR MindTech MedTech Co-operative. The role holder will work on the National Institute for Health and Research (NIHR) Programme Development Grant (PDG) project “Waiting Well”. The Waiting Well project is exploring the potential for a digital psychoeducation tool to support adults referred for ADHD assessment while they are on the waitlist to be seen by specialist services. The role will be to undertake supervised research for this NIHR-funded project, led from the University of Nottingham.
Your primary responsibility will be to work with the Project Leads, Prof Maddie Groom and Dr Charlotte Hall, and co-investigators, to support the project. You will arrange, conduct and analyse interviews with adults with recent experience of being on the waitlist for ADHD assessment, and clinicians working in relevant healthcare services. You will also conduct systematic reviews, organise and support expert advisory groups, and work with digital mental health technology partners Blum Health (https://blumtechgroup.com) to design a prototype app aimed at supporting adults waiting for an ADHD assessment. You will contribute to designing a future study to evaluate the app. Additionally, you will work support with Patient & Public Involvement activities involving adults with ADHD and other co-occurring conditions.
Candidates must hold a degree or equivalent in Psychology or Health Sciences and have experience of relevant research methodologies and techniques, as well as excellent interpersonal skills. Experience of qualitative research with adults in mental health settings as well as the ability to build relationships and collaborate with others (internally and externally) is essential. This role would be ideally suited to a person wishing to pursue a PhD or doctorate in clinical psychology.
This role will involve some contact with adults undergoing support for ADHD and therefore the post holder will be required to obtain satisfactory enhanced disclosure from the Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS), in line with the University’s code of research conduct and research ethics.
MindTech is committed to ensuring that the perspectives of those with lived experience are at the heart of everything we do, and we welcome applications from people with personal lived experience of mental health problems and/or neurodevelopmental conditions.
The post is offered on a full time (36.25 hours per week), fixed-term contract until 31 August 2026. The expected working pattern is Monday to Friday, however, there is potential for some flexibility.
Informal enquiries may be addressed to Maddie.groom@nottingham.ac.uk, tel: 0115 8230267 or email charlotte.hall@nottingham.ac.uk. Please note that applications sent directly to this email address will not be accepted.
It is a condition of this post that satisfactory enhanced disclosure is obtained from the 'Disclosure and Barring Service'.
