Applications are invited for a Postdoctoral Research Fellow in synthetic organic chemistry to work under the supervision of Dr. Miriam O’Duill in the School of Chemistry, University of Nottingham. The successful applicant will design and synthesise new hypervalent iodine reagents. In-depth stability and reactivity studies will be carried out to understand structure-stability and structure-reactivity relationships in the solid state and in solution. This knowledge will be used to design new reagents and demonstrate their usefulness as late-stage alkylating agents.

Successful candidates must have a PhD in synthetic organic chemistry or a related area. In addition, candidates should have hands-on experience in inert synthesis and organic methodology development, including reactivity studies and mechanistic investigations. Experience in hypervalent iodine chemistry is advantageous, but not essential. Creative problem solving, excellent oral and written communication skills, teamworking skills, the ability to manage the day-to-day running of a research project and a track record of high-quality publications are expected. The ability to foster a supportive, creative research culture and the commitment to learn from others is essential.

This is a full-time, fixed-term post and is available for a period of 12 months starting on or around 1st July 2025 (and no later than 1st September 2025). The application deadline is 19th May 2025. Job share arrangements may be considered. Requests for secondment from internal candidates may be considered on the basis that prior agreement has been sought from both your current line manager and the manager of your substantive post, if you are already undertaking a secondment role.
