About the role

The Institute for Policy Research (IPR) at The University of Bath, aims to further the public good through research into issues of significant relevance to policy debate and decision-making, building networks with the worlds of policy and practice, and increasing public understanding of policy research through our public events and publications.

We deliver activities for policymakers, researchers and practitioners to enable dual learning and original contributions to both research and practice.

The purpose of the role is threefold: to recruit senior-level policymakers and decision-makers from central and local government and the third sector to the IPR Policy Fellowship Programme (PFP) to facilitate a tailored programme of meetings with select Bath academics and to foster a policy alumni network; to support the design of the new programme of Areas of Research Interest (ARI's) at a regional level; and to build capacity in Bath’s internal policy engagement training capacity and delivery, to enable greater and more effective and impactful policy engagement impact across the University of Bath’s research portfolio. 

You will play a key role in recruiting academics to take part in the PFP and ARI programmes, and to provide policy engagement training for new staff members.

In addition, the role will support the Head of Policy Programmes and Communications in the development of new internal policy engagement coaching and training activities that support University of Bath research strategies. 

About you 

  • Ability to plan, coordinate, and oversee multiple streams of activities, including recruitment to, and delivery and evaluation of the Policy Fellowship Programme.
  • Experience of effective scheduling, reporting, and operational excellence.
  • Deep understanding of policy landscapes, government structures, and third-sector organisations within the UK.
  • Expertise in fostering connections between research and policy for impactful collaboration.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills to develop materials, engage stakeholders and represent the IPR.
  • Ability to build and maintain relationships with policymakers, academics, and external networks.
  • Skilled in planning, organising, and executing workshops, seminars, and other policy engagement activities.
  • Experience of creating meaningful interactions between policymakers and academics.
  • Proficient in collecting, analysing, and reporting on programme impact and evaluation data.
  • Experience in using feedback and case studies to demonstrate success and improve processes.
  • Experience in designing and delivering training sessions, workshops, and mentoring for academics.

Further Information 

This role is offered on a full time (36.5 hours per week) fixed term basis with an expected end date of 30/09/2025.
