Role Description

We are seeking a Strategic Programme Manager to work in the University of York’s new Specialist Centre for Social Care, in a new, pivotal, outward-facing national role that will encourage and support social care practitioners (e.g. social workers, occupational therapists) into research opportunities. Working alongside the Director (Dr Mark Wilberforce, University of York) and the Strategic Lead for Practitioner Research (Dr Michaela Rogers, University of Sheffield), you will be responsible for overseeing the successful delivery of the Centre’s plans to enhance practitioner engagement with research. The postholder will be situated within the growing social care research group which includes other large programmes of related work, such as the executive and administrative functions of the national NIHR School for Social Care Research.

Role

The key responsibilities include:

  • Leading consultations with partners and stakeholders to understand key priority work areas that could support adult and children’s social care practitioners into research funding opportunities
  • Building and delivering a collaboratively-constructed work programme under guidance from the RSS Specialist Centre’s Practitioner Research Working Group
  • Networking and building relationships with key groups of social care practitioners and associated networks across England, to advance the aims of the work programme
  • Promoting practitioner research opportunities at local, regional and national events
  • Undertaking other related duties as part of the RSS Specialist Centre

Skills, Experience & Qualification needed

The role requirements include the following knowledge and skills (see the job description for a full list):

  • Knowledge of social care and the local authority context of social care
  • Knowledge of basic research processes and research funding environment relevant to social care research
  • Awareness of the barriers that social care professionals experience when seeking to engage in research
  • Communications skills to engage and influence others.

A qualification in social work, occupational therapy or another practice qualification relevant to social care would be an advantage.
