The Department

The Strategic Planning team is a relatively small agile team based in the directorate and is primarily responsible for delivering data insight to drive improvements in business processes and outcomes across the University. The team spends the majority of their time analysing data from across the student lifecycle but they also support the development of University strategies and have been known to deliver innovative projects at scale.

The Role

Your ability to turn data into information and information into insight will shape the organisation decisions. Working closely with a team of motivated professionals you will build the data narratives that will enable senior managers and colleagues to engage with the issues that matter. You will be encouraged to discover innovative ways to deal with the big questions and will be supported to develop new skills to deliver solutions to problems.

The Person

You will be a highly analytical individual, with experience working with data and a nous for translating data into actionable insights. You will possess strong communication skills and the ability to work effectively in a team setting. A natural problem solver, with your work you will act as an influencer across all levels of the organisation.

• You will work with data from different internal and external data sources and be expected to quality assure and develop process improvements using different tools and methodologies
• You’ll then be expected to interrogate data and information, combining it with your understanding of the higher education policy landscape to generate insights that drive business decisions and improvements
• You will effectively communicate your findings to colleagues at all levels of the institution be that orally, in writing or in the development of self-service dashboards , presenting on occasion to University groups and committees
• You will be working within a team that strives to be at the forefront of emerging technologies and analytical techniques. You will be expected to keep abreast of these trends and undertake relevant CPD, sometimes as the sole representative from the team, and feed that back into advancing the quality of work of the department
