Biosciences is one of the world’s foremost centres for research and teaching in the biological sciences and one of the largest Divisions within UCL, undertaking a significant amount of research and teaching.
This is an exciting opportunity to join the Medawar Pain and Somatosensory Labs under the supervision of Prof Fabrizi and Dr Meek to study the link between early sensory experiences and long-term sensory processing abilities in preterm-born neonates and children.
About the role
Preterm born children are at higher risk of sensory processing disorders. The role holder will work on a collaborative health research project which aims to understand the early development of somatosensation in preterm infant and how this is related to sensory abilities in childhood. This will provide an early identification of individual at risk of developing sensory processing challenges and associated neurodisabilities. The main purpose of this position is to recruit families of babies in the neonatal units at UCLH and carry out electroencephalography (EEG) in premature and term infants on the neonatal units and at 2- and 3-years follow-ups.
This is an exciting opportunity for a Clinical Physiologist as you will learn about research methods and will have the opportunity to lead your own research projects and attend national and international conferences. Previous post holders from other projects have been recruited by major research hospitals (e.g. Queen’s Square, GOSH) or went on to develop their own clinical-research career.
The salary will match NHS Band 6 in London and will be limited to £44,230 per annum. An acceptable DBS check is required to carry out this role.
This role is an open-ended contract with a funding end date of 07/02/2028 in the first instance.

About you
You must have at least one of the following: MSc Clinical Science (Neurosensory Sciences), MSc Clinical Neurophysiology Practice, BSc Clinical Physiology (Neurophysiology), BSc in Healthcare Science (Neurosensory Sciences), PgCert Neurophysiology, or equivalent formal specialist training in UK or abroad (o e.g. BTEC HNC/D in Medical Physics and Physiological Measurement (MPPM) or equivalent experience + professional exam ANS/ECNE Part I). Post-qualification experience of clinical EEG (preferably in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit settings) is also essential. You must have a keen interest in applying your clinical neurophysiology knowledge to help advancing research, excellent skills to work as part of a team and be willing to participate to the academic activities of the team.
