About the role
We are seeking a highly motivated Research Assistant in Spatial Tumour Analysis to join the Parkes group (under Professor Eileen Parkes) in collaboration with the Tissue Histopathology Lab (THL), within the Department of Oncology. This exciting position will focus on studying the tumour microenvironment using advanced digital pathology techniques, particularly multiplex immunofluorescence imaging.
The successful candidate will support the design, optimisation, and analysis of multiplex panels to characterise the spatial distribution of immune and other cells within tumour tissues. You will work with experts in multiplex imaging and digital pathology, gaining experience with tools such as QuPath and both published and in-house image analysis algorithms.
In this role, you will coordinate experiments, contribute to experimental design, and apply digital analysis techniques to high-resolution images. You will also have opportunities to perform your own experiments and further your scientific development - this role offers an excellent foundation for those considering PhD applications.
This role is offered on a full-time basis and is fixed-term for 1 year in the first instance.
About you
You will hold an undergraduate degree in genetics, biochemistry, molecular biology, or a related field, with a keen interest in tumour immunology and the tumour microenvironment.
You will have relevant experience in molecular biology techniques and bioinformatic analysis of digital pathology images. Your ability to prioritise your own workload and work independently will be essential, as will your excellent organisational and communication skills.
You will be familiar with cell populations within the immune system and their roles in tumour biology. Experience in digital pathology analysis, RNAseq and single-cell RNAseq data, or flow cytometry would be highly desirable, as would a willingness to contribute to method development and integration of novel techniques.
