Faculty / Directorate

The Library and Student Services team offer a broad range of support across five locations to De Montfort University staff and students and visitors with a user population of ca, 28,000 with daily visits in excess of 6000 users. Our main Kimberlin Library is open 24/7/365 offering a range of support services to users during 74 hours of staffed operation over seven days of the week.

The Student Welfare team focuses on providing an array of excellent student wellbeing initiatives and support for our students during their time at university including HealthyDMU our university wide approach to wellbeing. DMU is at the forefront in recognising and delivering an environment that provides students with resources that support their development and studies, which will enable them to succeed and to achieve their potential. This is an exciting time to join the directorate as we continue to develop our services and accommodation to enhance the student experience.

Role

As an Anti-Harassment Support Advisor, you will provide standardised, appropriate and professional university welfare support and signposting to any DMU student or apprentice who discloses a hate incident, harassment or bullying in relation to a protected characteristic, sexual violence, sexual harassment, domestic abuse or so called ‘honour’ abuse as part of No Space for Hate or The Mandala Project.

You will provide a main point of initial contact for student disclosures to No Space for Hate via phone, email, teams or face to face meetings during office hours. You will assess individual support needs and refer to local and national external agencies and specialist support services as appropriate in line with OFSTED and OFS regulatory requirements.

You will work collaboratively with teams and colleagues within DMU such as DMU Security, The Wellbeing Team and DMU Sport in order to facilitate effective support and engagement opportunities for students accessing DMU Student Welfare services.

The role is on a permanent basis, part time (28.29 hours per week) for 34 weeks of the year (Term Time Only). The salary shown for this post will need to be pro-rated down to reflect the part time hours/weeks.

Ideal Candidate

In order to be successful, you will have specialist qualifications or experience related to adult focused welfare advice.

Demonstrable expertise and recent work experience of providing practical welfare support to adults affected by bullying, abuse, or harassment in relation to protected characteristics.

Clear understanding of the impact of hate, bullying, abuse and harassment on students and the range of challenges which a diverse range people may encounter in a university setting.

Ability to maintain excellent working relationships with relevant colleagues including external and national partners and services.

A satisfactory DBS check will be required (Level of check to be determined at offer stage).
