Faculty/Directorate
The Estates and Facilities Directorate is large and diverse, employing over 300 people over a range of roles from manual, student facing to professional surveyors and sustainability experts. The workload is varied from proactive maintenance, reactive problem solving and always at the heart of service delivery is customer engagement.
The Leisure team sit within Estates and Facilities and comprises of 3 sites: The Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee Leisure Centre, The Watershed and Beaumont Park Sports Facility. The sites deliver indoor and outdoor access for competitive, recreational and social activity for students, staff and the wider community to participate in. The Leisure team is made up of 34 team members, of varying roles, and is supported with a range of temporary staff. These staff cover the opening times, Monday-Sunday, 6am - 11pm.
Role
The role is part of a busy leisure team who deliver over 104 hours of contact time a week to members, pay as you go users, external hirers and the wider University community. The role is to competently supervise and control a busy fitness suite and studio environment, swimming pool and climbing wall by being highly motivated, professional and competently trained to deliver excellent service.
The role is based in the QEII Diamond Jubilee Leisure Centre and is full time on an 8-week rotation, Monday to Sunday covering earlies, middles and lates. You will be responsible for understanding and knowing all about the core business, be able to assist our users to get the most from their visits to our facilities, be welcoming, friendly and be the go-to person for all our users about all of our services. You will also support other colleagues across leisure when required.
Ideal Candidate
The successful candidate will be trained as a Fitness Instructor to a minimum Level 2 standard, be NPLQ (or equivalent) qualified, have Climbing Wall Leading Award/Single Pitch Award or higher with experience of working in a climbing wall, have group exercise based qualifications and experience of teaching and have a valid 1st aid at work certificate. Exceptional candidates will be considered and trained without the relevant lifeguard and climbing wall qualifications but must be able to attain them both.
You will be a passionate and enthusiastic individual, who like the existing members of staff, strive to give the best service possible for those who visit the centre and go the extra mile for customers when needed. We are looking to hear from candidates that have good communication and customer service skills, have a maturity and calmness to work under pressure, the ability to handle cash and maintain customer records, as well as be confident with using basic Microsoft packages and have used leisure management systems. Previous experience of dealing face to face with customers in a busy environment is essential and you must be able to gain a satisfactory enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check.
