About the role
This post is available from 1 February 2025 or as soon as possible thereafter. Salary will be UCL Grade 7, which is £43,124 - £51,610 per annum inclusive of London Allowance. This role is working within the Professional Services Team in the Department of Mathematics, which sits within the MAPS Faculty. The Department of Mathematics is situated at the corner of Gower Place and Gordon Street on the main UCL site, and consists of lecture rooms, lecturers’ offices and the departmental office. By utilising networks and finance systems already in place both Departmentally and with the Faculty and wi der university, the role holder will be able to collaborate effectively across a wide range of colleagues and networks which is essential for success in the role. Main purpose of the job The postholder will provide a comprehensive staffing and human resources service to all staff within the the department. They will ensure that all staff are aware of adhere to UCL HR and staffing policies and procedures, and advise staff accordingly. Key working relationships: Departmental Manager, Deputy Departmental Manager, HR Administrator, Operations Administrator, academic and PS staff, HR Business Partner, Central HR and Finance staff, MAPS Faculty Office PS colleagues, colleagues across the wider MAPS Faculty, UCL Customer Services Centre, Central HR, Central Recruitment, UCL PS Hub.
About you
A successful candidate will be educated to degree level or equivalent with relevant experience gained in a similar role, have experience of working in a HR/Staffing administration role within Higher Education or a comparable environment, experience of assimilating information and policy knowledge, preferably in HR, and being able to provide accurate information and advice to all levels of staff. As well as have experience of recruitment and selection, including providing advice and guidance on relevant legislation and best practice processes, and proactively defining and introducing new working practices in a customer focused team. They will have excellent verbal and written communication skills, excellent working knowledge of IT software including MS Office suite, interpersonal and networking skills with the ability to work with a wide range of people and develop appropriate working relationships, and excellent organisational, prioritisation and time management skills, with the a bility to work calmly under pressure whilst retaining accuracy. They will show willingness and ability to undertake training to adapt to new systems quickly, have ability to acquire and assimilate information effectively, to impart information and advice to staff, and to analyse problems and proactively identify solutions. They will demonstrate a proven ability to work with, gain the confidence of and negotiate with staff at all levels and a good understanding of the importance of confidentiality and the ability to deal with sensitive staffing issues with tact and diplomacy. An outstanding candidate will have experience of HR/Staffing administration within a research environment and have a professional HR qualification (e.g. CIPD)
