The Faculty of Art, Design and Humanities is home to the creative disciplines and humanities subjects, with subjects taught by internationally acclaimed and award-winning academics. Humanities students have access to the full range of audio-visual and IT facilities, including audio, video and web-based learning, and the option to study a language alongside their degree.

Role

This role is offered as a 6 month fixed term contract. As a Technical Instructor in Fashion you will be instrumental in supporting students and staff in a busy, supportive and professional working environment. Your primary role will be to operate and instruct students on the equipment in the machine rooms, to ensure safe and correct use of the equipment and to prepare the equipment and student sample packs for use in teaching sessions. You will be responsible for maintaining the area to provide a clean and safe working environment, be expected to work both independently and as an effective member of a team of technicians, liaising closely with specialist academic staff. Much of the work goes forward to represent the university at exhibitions and fashion shows so must be to the highest standard.

Ideal Candidate

To be successful, you will have thorough knowledge of garment construction across a variety of styles and fabric type is essential. Industry Experience essential. You must have the ability to demonstrate a range of practical Fashion processes and support students in safe use of professional machinery and equipment (i.e. generic and specialist sewing machines, over lockers etc.) Good eye for detail, highly organized with excellent communication skills and ability to deliver a high quality of experience to our students.
