Library and Student Services is responsible for providing a wide and diverse range of services to all our students including Student Welfare, Careers & Employability and Library Services. DMU is a destination of choice for many disabled students, reflected in the fact that it has one of the largest populations of disabled students in the country.

Role

De Montfort University is committed to creating an inclusive environment that enables all students to reach their full potential. To achieve this goal, we are seeking a highly skilled individual to fill the position of Lead Study Skills Tutor. This post is to cover Maternity Leave within the Directorate of Library and Student Services. The post is 37 hours a week for up to 1 year, or upon the return of the post-holder, whichever is sooner.

The Lead Specialist Study Skills tutor will Manage and contribute to the delivery of the Disabled Student Allowance (DSA) 1:1 Support service, monitoring the service through quality assurance and enhancement procedures to ensure the correct processes are being followed and timely intervention occurs where appropriate. You will manage a team of Study Skills tutors in enabling students with Specific Learning Differences to meet their full potential. Taking a lead role in the division’s efforts to remove barriers to the retention and attainment of a diverse range of students. This is a unique opportunity for a dedicated professional to make a positive impact on the lives of our students.

Ideal Candidate

The ideal candidate will preferably have recent and relevant experience of supporting adults who have a Specific Learning Difference in the Higher Education environment, supporting students become familiar with University procedures and the range of support mechanisms that are available to them and to provide them with support to access these.

You will be proactive and flexible in your approach, have excellent interpersonal skills, and possess the ability to prioritise your workload. This post is subject to a satisfactory enhanced DBS.
