Main duties and responsibilities
We are seeking a full-time Research Fellow to join the Robotic Research Group (RRG) at the School of Physics, Engineering and Computer Science at the University of Hertfordshire to conduct high-quality research relevant to the human activity and intention detection using multimodal sensory information, including robot-mounted sensors.
The successful candidate is expected to build on the success of our previous projects in physiological sensing and classification, as well as robotic for ambient assisted living, and to establish a programme of research activity working collaboratively with colleagues at the University of Hertfordshire and NHS partners in a recently funded project, Hospital@home project as appropriate. The project aims to utilise robots and sensors in the home of virtual ward participants in order to provide personalised care post discharge from hospital.
You will contribute to the preparation and execution of experiments, as well as analysis of results and publications. Research Fellow in Robotics and Deep Learning will create opportunities to maximise research activities, capturing relevant evidence to support impact and engaging with external partners and stakeholders.
You will be required to travel to field trials, meeting with participants and conducting experiments and to attend conferences for demonstrations and exhibitions. In addition to this, you will be expected to attend project meetings within UH, nationally and internationally, as appropriate.
Skills and experience required
Strong theoretical background in Human-Robot Interaction and experience with experiment design, organisation of experiments including research ethics application, as well as conduct and analysis of interaction studies. Ideally, experience with quantitative and qualitative analysis and statistical analysis/tools in interaction studies. Applicants must be proficient in both written and oral English and have excellent interpersonal and presentation skills. Experience with human activity monitoring and intention detection is elemental to this role. This entails a working knowledge of programming languages such as Python/Java/C++.
Qualifications required
Educated with a PhD degree (or expectation that one will soon be awarded with viva completed) in a relevant subject areas such as robotics, mechatronics, machine learning or computer science.
