An excellent opportunity has a risen for a full time, permanent Head of Buildings and Facilities in the Department of Chemistry. The role has overall responsibility for an operational team of 41 FTE, an annual budget of £6M, and the smooth functioning of five science buildings occupied by a total of 1300 academics, staff and students. Reporting to the Head of Administration and working closely with the Head of Department, Academic Section Heads and Research Group leaders, the University central Estates’ Service and external contractors, the Head of Buildings and Facilities delivers effective operational leadership, planning and risk management for the Department’s premises.

The successful applicant will be educated to degree level in a building service or engineering subject and/or an equivalent professional qualification, with significant experience of successfully line managing technical managers and supervisors responsible for a wide range of hard and soft services in a similar environment. They will be able to demonstrate significant understanding of the technical infrastructure required to maintain a similar complex science, teaching and research environment and have the technical ability to be hands on when the situation requires. They will have proven project management experience and experience of setting and managing operational budgets over £1 million. Experience of managing teams is also essential.
