Applications are invited for a Head of Organisational Development (maternity cover), to work with senior colleagues, academic, research, and administrative staff across the Nuffield Department of Primary Care Health Sciences. 

The successful candidate will use a systematic approach to drive performance in the department, providing expert direction in the areas of organisational culture, values, equality, diversity & inclusion (EDI) as well as career development. The post holder will also ensure that these activities are aligned to the department’s strategic goals and complement its ethos. Responsibilities will include:

  • Building strong professional relationships with key stakeholders across the University and beyond to foster collaboration, sharing best practice, influencing and inspiring wider change.
  • Presenting complex data and research through reports and summaries as a member of the People and EDI committee and as required the Senior Academic committee and wider department.
  • Overseeing the department's wellbeing activities and ensuring that a strategic and impactful approach is taken to staff and student health and wellbeing.
  • Developing and delivering leadership interventions for all levels of leader and manager across the department with an innovative range of delivery options.

During the period of maternity leave, in addition to the key responsibilities outlined within the job description, there are several projects that will be of particular significance. These projects can also be found listed within the job description. 

You will have proven experience in a learning and development or equality, diversity, and inclusion role in a large organisation with multiple stakeholder groups. You must be a self-directed strategic thinker with the capacity to problem-solve, take initiative, set priorities, and exercise good judgment in an organised and professional manner. 

You will be based in the Nuffield Department of Primary Care Health Sciences, Radcliffe Primary Care Building, Woodstock Road, Oxford, OX2 6GG as your normal place of work, but you may be able to agree a pattern of regular remote working with your line manager. 

This post is available as full time or at 80% of full time. 

This post is to cover the absence of the substantive post holder, who is taking a period of maternity leave. The post is available until 30 April 2026 or the actual return of the substantive postholder, or the resignation of the substantive postholder and employment of a new postholder, whichever is the earliest.
