Christ Church invites applications for a fixed-term Stipendiary Lecturership in English commencing 1 October 2025. This is a temporary, fixed-term position to fulfil a current teaching need arising from Professor Mishtooni Bose’s sabbatical leave during Michaelmas and Hilary Term 2025/6. Therefore, the appointment carries with it no expectation of permanent employment at Christ Church.
The Lecturer will be expected to deliver eight hours per week of high-quality tutorial teaching, averaged over the first two terms of the academic year and weighted in accordance with the Senior Tutors’ Committee recommendations, to undergraduates on the English School degrees. The successful candidate will be be able to teach the following papers for the Preliminary Examination in English Language and Literature and the Final Honour School of English Language and Literature:
The salary will be in the range of £22,091 – £24,411 (current rates) per annum, according to qualifications and experience. New appointments are usually made at the first point of the scale.
Applicants should have evidence of the skills needed for higher education teaching in tutorial or small group settings, a research record commensurate with the stage of their career; and have a doctorate, or evidence that one will be substantially complete before the start date in English or a closely related field.
