Immigration Advisor
De Montfort University is an ambitious, globally minded institution with a clear focus on delivering high-quality teaching and research. A culturally rich University with a strong commitment to the public good, it strives to maintain a stimulating, innovative and inclusive environment where staff and students can thrive.
Role
As an Immigration Advisor within De Montfort University’s People Services team, you will play a critical role in supporting our diverse workforce by offering expert guidance on UK visa and immigration matters. Reporting to the Deputy Head of People Services Operations, you will serve as the first point of contact for all immigration-related inquiries, providing comprehensive advice and support to both internal colleagues and external applicants navigating the visa process.
This position requires close collaboration with the Home Office and various university departments to ensure compliance with UK immigration regulations and deliver a high-quality, customer-focused service. Your key responsibilities will include issuing certificates of sponsorship, maintaining sponsor duties, and ensuring the university meets all reporting obligations to UK Visas and Immigration (UKVI). Through your work, you will help create a welcoming environment for international staff and contribute to the university's mission of fostering inclusivity and supporting global talent.
Ideal Candidate
The ideal candidate for this role is a skilled and knowledgeable immigration professional with significant experience in managing UK visa and immigration processes, preferably within higher education or a similarly regulated environment. You will possess a strong understanding of the Points-Based System, UK immigration laws, and best practices for maintaining compliance. Your ability to interpret complex immigration legislation and provide clear, practical guidance to a non-specialist audience will be crucial.
We are looking for someone who has exceptional interpersonal and communication skills, enabling them to engage effectively with a wide range of stakeholders, from university leadership to visa applicants. You will also have a proactive approach, identifying opportunities for process improvements and implementing solutions to enhance service delivery. As an organized and resilient professional, you will adeptly manage multiple priorities, maintaining a high standard of service under pressure. A genuine commitment to inclusivity, along with a customer-centric mindset, will empower you to support De Montfort University’s diverse community and uphold its values.
