Do you have an interest in teaching the key principles of psychodynamic counselling and psychotherapy? Birkbeck, University of London, has an excellent opportunity for an Associate Lecturer to join the Birkbeck Counselling Centre.
As Associate Lecturer you will teach the following programmes and modules. Your main task will be the preparation, teaching, administration, and assessment of modules. Classes meet weekly from January until December 2025:
You will be a psychodynamic counsellor or psychotherapist, or a psychoanalytic psychotherapist, trained to masters level or equivalent, with substantial, post-qualification clinical experience, some of which will ideally be in a public setting. You will have experience of different types of teaching methods and strategies appropriate to counselling/psychotherapy (in particular, both experiential and critical teaching methods).

Remuneration
Payment is based on an hourly rate depending on length of continuous service with the College (starting rate £68.13 per hour inclusive of pro-rata London Allowance and holiday pay) for contact hours worked. This hourly rate is based on the starting point of Grade 7 and is inclusive of a ‘Duties Related to Teaching Multiplier’ at 2.5 which covers preparation, teaching, administration, assessment marking and other examining duties in connection with the course.
Contract
