Oriel College seeks to appoint a Stipendiary Lecturer in Mathematics from 1 January 2025 to 31 December 2026, to cover for Professor Patrick Farrell. Candidates should hold or be studying for a doctorate in a relevant field of Mathematics, and should be able to demonstrate relevant teaching and administrative experience.

The person appointed will be expected to undertake teaching for an average of 6 contact hours per week during term time to undergraduates at Oriel College and other colleges. Candidates must be able to teach the following Prelims subjects: Introductory Calculus, Multivariable Calculus, Computational Mathematics, Dynamics, Fourier Series and PDEs.

The Lecturer will assist with general administration, the pastoral care of undergraduates, and admissions in week 10 of Michaelmas Term (in December).

The basic stipend will be according to the Senior Tutors’ Committee recommended scale for full-time stipendiary lecturers with a teaching stint of 6 hours per week (calculated on a pro rata basis – currently £15,994 to £17,733 per annum, depending on experience, 2024/25 rate to be confirmed). The post-holder will also have access to a research allocation of £987. Contributory membership of USS (the Universities Superannuation Scheme) is also offered. The Lecturer will be entitled to free lunch and dinner in the Senior Common Room.

The closing date for applications is midday on 2 December 2024, and interviews are expected to take place week commencing 9 December 2024 and will not require a presentation.
