Applications are invited for two Clinical Trial Programmers to join the Programmer and Systems Management team in the Primary Care Clinical Trials Unit (PCCTU), a world-leading centre for primary care research, that conducts high-quality clinical trials to improve patient and community health.
Working under the direction of the Clinical Trials Senior Software Development Manager and the Head of Operations, the successful candidates will be responsible for maintaining, supporting, and enhancing the PCCTU’s in-house databases and systems, as well as developing, building, and validating software systems required by the Unit. You will line manage junior members of the Programmer and Systems Management team and develop and deliver training to trial staff in the use of software and systems. You will also contribute to the design of clinical trials and protocol development, offering advice on the feasibility of data capture systems.
It is essential that the successful candidates are educated to degree level (or equivalent relevant experience) in computer science or a related subject. You will have a high standard of oral and written English, excellent communication skills, and a track record as a committed team player. You must have experience of object-oriented programming languages (especially PHP), understanding of back-end web application and API development, including using frameworks (Laravel), understanding of server (Linux), web server (Apache/Tomcat/Nginx) and database (SQL and NoSQL) administration, and understanding of DevOps, especially CI/CD (Jenkins), containers (Docker/Podman), and version control (Git/Github).
Please see the job description for a full list of the essential and desirable selection criteria.
Whilst the role is a grade 7 (£38,674 - £46,913 p.a.) position, we would be willing to consider candidates with potential but less experience who are seeking a development opportunity, for which an initial appointment would be at grade 6 (£34,982 - £40,855 p.a.) with the responsibilities adjusted accordingly. This would be discussed with applicants at the interview or appointment, where appropriate.
Your normal place of work will be the Gibson Building, Nuffield Department of Primary Care Health Sciences, Radcliffe Primary Care Building, Woodstock Road, Oxford OX2 6GG. However, you may be able to agree a pattern of regular remote working with your line manager.
These positions are full time and fixed-term for one year in the first instance.
