University of Oxford - Department of Engineering Science, Institute of Biomedical Engineering

Location: Oxford
Salary: £38,674 to £46,913 per annum : Grade 7 (including Oxford University Weighting)
Hours: Full Time

We are seeking a full-time Postdoctoral Researcher to join the research group of Professor Jens Rittscher at the Department of Engineering Science Headington.  The post is funded by Wellcome Trust Bioimaging Technology Development Award and is fixed-term until 30 April 2026.

The vision and ambition of this Wellcome Trust Bioimaging Technology Development Award is to enable the analysis of cell morphology and tissue architecture in 3D and quantify protein and transcripts in their spatial context. Our current understanding of disease is primarily based on 2D models and thin tissue sections. The convergence of novel methods for imaging a broad range of biomolecules, spatially resolved single cell genomics, and AI applied to digitised tissue images has the potential change the way in which we diagnose disease, assess response to therapy, and manage patients.

The Postdoctoral Researcher will develop novel algorithms using latest computer vision and machine learning techniques that will enable the detection and analysis of tissue architecture components and subtle disease related changes in images of 3D tissues.  You will also be responsible for development, validation, and testing of novel image analysis algorithms. As part of a larger cross-disciplinary project you will be working closely with other members of the team to conduct hypothesis driven research.

You should hold a relevant PhD/DPhil or be near completion, together with experience in deep learning and biomedical image analysis and have a strong interest in cross-disciplinary research.

Informal enquiries may be addressed to Jens Rittscher (jens.rittscher@eng.ox.ac.uk).

Only online applications received before midday on 18 November 2024 can be considered. You will be required to upload a covering letter/supporting statement, including a brief statement of research interests (describing how past experience and future plans fit with the advertised position), CV and the details of two referees as part of your online application.

The Department holds an Athena Swan Bronze award, highlighting its commitment to promoting women in Science, Engineering and Technology.
