Are you passionate about the historical development of artificial intelligence? Can you explain the key concepts that have shaped the field of AI? If so, join Birkbeck, University of London, as an Associate Lecturer and teach our course on the History and Foundations of AI this Spring 2025.

As an Associate Lecturer you will teach:

  • The History and Foundations of AI, 30 hours teaching in total on Tuesday evening (18.00 to 21.00)

You will have in-depth knowledge of the history of AI (including key figures and intellectual movements), its theoretical foundations, and its applications. An ability to convey this information clearly to non-technical audiences is crucial.

Further to the person specification, essential requirements for this role are:

  • A PhD (or equivalent level) in an appropriate specialism or to be close to completion.
  • A good developing track record of research in the field.
  • Teaching experience at both undergraduate and postgraduate level.
  • A good understanding of different teaching and learning methods, and experience in working with students from a range of backgrounds.
  • Effective oral and written communication skills.
  • Good organisation and administration skills.

Salary and benefits

Payment is based on an hourly rate for contact hours worked. The specific rate depends on length of continuous service with the College and includes of pro-rata London Allowance and holiday pay. This hourly rate of £68.13 per hour is based on the starting point of Grade 7 and is inclusive of a ‘Duties Related to Teaching Multiplier’ which covers preparation, teaching, administration, assessment marking and other examining duties in connection with the course.

Contract

Part-time, 3 month fixed-term contract Jan-March 2025. Teaching Tuesday evening 6-9pm.
