About the role
The role is to develop a pre-clinical gene therapy treatment for rare epilepsy, and the duties and responsibilities involve evaluating efficacy of viral gene therapies in a transgenic mouse model of neurological disease through stereotactic administration of treatment, behavioural assessment and tissues analysis.
The candidate will engage on a programme of post-doctoral research full-time until 31/01/2027.
The candidate will be expected to undertake teaching at undergraduate/postgraduate levels and carry out other forms of public presentation.
Applicants should have a higher academic degree e.g. PhD and evidence of an equivalent level of attainment in research publications.

About you
We are looking for an individual who has extensive experience in neuroscience and gene therapy. Experience in-vivo work (Home office personal licence for animal research), performing stereotactic injections and electroencephalogram (EEG) implant surgery/recording for seizures.
Previous experience with in-vivo behavioural work, tissue analysis (qPCR, western blot and immunohistochemistry) and gene therapy vector production are essential.
Excellent interpersonal skills and flexible attitude to shift work are essential as well as the ability to work unsupervised on occasion.
Applicants should hold a PhD in neuroscience and gene therapy.
For the right candidate there will be opportunity to gain new skills; translational gene therapy project, writing project reports for funder, research paper writing, grant writing/submission.
Appointment at Grade 7 is dependent upon having been awarded a PhD; if this is not the case, ini tial appointment will be at Grade 6B spine point with payment at Grade 7 being backdated to the date of final submission of the PhD Thesis.
