The Institute of Making (IoM)
The IoM is a unique organisation that explores, celebrates, and investigates materials and processes through a wide range of activities. In Autumn 2023, we opened a second IoM space in Stratford, expanding our facilities with a bespoke space at UCL East, on the Olympic Park.
About the role

We are looking for someone from a creative background who is enthusiastic about working with a collection of physical samples of materials in a creative, multidisciplinary and hands-on university environment. We need someone with a flair for the visual, excellent communication skills, and a broad knowledge of materials and making processes that they would be excited to share with Institute of Making colleagues, UCL students and staff, public visitors and industrial partners from many different disciplinary backgrounds.
Please note that if you have any questions about this role, the Institute of Making staff won’t be available until Monday, 6th January 2025.
About you
The successful candidate will need to demonstrate the following criteria:
Experience engaging a range of public audiences with materials or object collections, or experience supporting students, researchers and academic staff in their learning about materials and making processes.
Excellent visual communication skills, which could be expressed through competence in photography, graphic design, set dressing or styling, for example.
Excellent organisational and problem-solving skills, with an ability to deliver projects to a high standard, on time and on budget.
Please see the attached job description and person specification for full details. Please also read the attached Candidate Guidance document. When completing your supporting statement, please tell us, using examples, how you meet the essential criteria listed in the job description.
