The British Academy is the UK’s national academy for the humanities and social sciences. It mobilises these disciplines to understand the world and shape a brighter future.

The British Academy’s Early Career Researcher Network (BA ECRN) was launched in Autumn 2021 in partnership with the Wolfson Foundation, which supported the pilot phase over an initial two years. Following the successful pilot, the Network will now continue for a further three years through to Autumn 2027. The BA ECRN is an inclusive, researcher-led membership body accessible to all UK-based early career researchers (ECRs) working in the humanities and social sciences – regardless of their funding source or background.

The University of Nottingham is the lead delivery partner for the next phase of the BA ECRN Midlands and Mid-Wales Cluster, working together with University of Lincoln and Coventry University. This opportunity supports our institutional ambitions to continue our national leadership in early career development support across the Arts and Social Sciences disciplines, reaching beyond our respective universities to influence the national and international landscape of early career researcher development support.

We are looking for a motivated and organised individual with a flexible approach to work to lead on the design, management, delivery, and evaluation of the BA ECRN Midlands and Mid-Wales Cluster activities. They should be a team player with a high degree of initiative, responsibility and have a professional attitude and a proactive approach to problem solving. Strong oral and written communication skills are required, as is the ability to establish strong and credible working relationships with network stakeholders.

Although employed by and based at the University of Nottingham, the postholder will support the work of all co-delivery partners. The postholder will be required to travel across the region to collaborate with Cluster partners.

The post is offered on a fixed term contract until 31 March 2027. Hours of work are part time, 18.12 hours per week. Work pattern and mode can be discussed upon appointment.

Informal enquiries may be addressed to Connie Wan via email Connie.Wan@nottingham.ac.uk. Please note that applications sent directly to this email address will not be accepted.

Requests for secondment from internal candidates may be considered on the basis that prior agreement has been sought from both your current line manager and the manager of your substantive post, if you are already undertaking a secondment role.
