Hertford College (“the one with the bridge”) is a constituent college of The University of Oxford, and a registered charity. The college occupies a central site in Oxford, opposite the Bodleian Library.

Hertford is a friendly yet ambitious college dedicated to the principles of access and equality of opportunity. It is proud of its open and progressive history. It has an academic strategy designed to facilitate excellence in teaching and research and an estates strategy that includes plans for the redevelopment of the library on the main site, the sports ground facilities and residential accommodation, as well as a new building project on a satellite site in North Oxford, and a low carbon house project in South Oxford.

A primary focus will be transforming how we manage the College estate to reduce unwanted emissions.  As the College energy manager, the Sustainability Manager will be responsible for the day-to-day management of utilities (Electricity, Gas and Water), developing measures to achieve greater efficiency in consumption, reducing cost and environmental impact.

The Sustainability Manager will work across all College departments, engaging with fellows, staff and students, to develop and deliver relevant initiatives.  A high proportion of their work will be focussed alongside the Clerk of Works, Accommodation Office, Housekeeping and Catering Departments.

The post is ideal for someone who is proactive, practical and able to work autonomously in a fast-paced, professional environment.  A strong interest in, and affinity with, sustainability goals and objectives.  You will have a proven track record and experience of working in a leadership role to deliver sustainability goals, particularly within estate management and building plant.  Strong interpersonal and communication skills are essential: the post holder will need to build close and effective working relationships throughout the college and beyond.
