About the Role
We are looking for a Finance Manager to join the Department of Politics and International Relations (DPIR), a leading department recognised internationally for its rigorous and valuable research. In this key role within the DPIR Senior Management Team, you will be responsible for the financial operations of the Department. Reporting to the Head of Administration and Finance and managing a small team of 3 finance staff, you will have overall responsibility for the efficient and effective delivery of all finance functions in the department, which has an annual turnover of over £20m. This will include ensuring effective and resilient financial processes and controls that are compliant with institutional and broader financial regulations, taking the lead role in financial planning activities, particularly budget setting, forecasting and scenario modelling and managing a changing portfolio of projects.
About You
You will have strong accounting knowledge, evidenced by a full or partial professional accounting qualification (ACCA, CIMA, CIPFA, ACA), supplemented by broad-based, relevant post-qualification accounting experience. As a skilled finance professional, you will have significant experience working in finance roles, preferably in a large, complex accounting environment, with proven skills in financial planning, reporting and project accounting.
You will have effective verbal and written communication skills and an ability to build strong working relationships with colleagues. This will include skills and experience in managing staff. In addition, you will have proven leadership, management and technical accounting skills. Experience of working in the Higher Education sector in a research-intensive organisation is desirable.
