An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Data Centre Technician to join the Data Centre Team who are responsible for the installation, deployment and management of all systems and servers within the University’s two main Data Centres. This includes responsibility for over five hundred servers, network equipment and data centre environmental control systems and responsibility for facilities managed systems for Schools.
As part of this team you will install and deploy new services and equipment, developing and documenting relevant protocols where required and deliver training to IT Service Desk and Faculty-based support staff. You will manage the operational support for all systems in the Data Centre, the secure physical access to the Data Centre and hardware maintenance contracts.
A HND or equivalent qualification in Computing or related subject area, or equivalent relevant experience is essential. A degree in Computing or related subject area, membership of an appropriate professional organisation or an ITIL v3 foundation qualification would be advantageous. Knowledge of Windows server operating systems and the ability to follow instructions and procedures accurately with a high level of attention to detail is essential, as are analytical and problem solving skills. Knowledge of managing storage area networks, serve patch management tools and of a Data Centre environment would be beneficial.
You will be required to work across campus undertaking a full range of responsibilities associated with the role (reasonable adjustments will be considered for an individual in line with the Equality Act 2010) and be a member of the out of hours scheme which will involve out of hours call out and involvement in standby rota as requested.
This full-time post is available on an fixed term basis until 31 December 2024.
