Main Duties and Responsibilities
The Finance Manager will play a key role supporting all aspects of Finance for the School of Physics Engineering and Computer Science to provide accurate and timely management information to the Dean and School Senior team. You will support Business Planning, decision making and financial control, and reporting to external stakeholders.
Reporting to the Senior Finance Manager but located within the School and operating as part of the School’s senior team, the role is vital in managing the competing claims for resource and providing robust financial planning for the schools activities.
You will play a significant part in the Annual Planning process preparing budgets and subsequently forecasts on a quarterly basis. In addition, you will prepare and review monthly and annual management accounts for Budget Holders/Deans, querying and providing explanations for variances against budget/forecast and escalating issues to the Centre with recommendations for action. You will also take the Finance lead in the School Management meetings.
You will also provide support on costing and pricing decisions ensuring financial viability of new courses, partnerships and projects and have responsibility for managing one member of staff.
Skills and experience needed
You will be a fully qualified accountant and an experienced finance professional with excellent IT skills, particularly Excel. You will hold board-based, relevant post-qualification accounting experience in a financial management role. Staff management experience is essential to this role, as is experience with preparing budgets and forecasts.
You will have excellent analytical skills and a proven aptitude for team working as well as being a self-starter with strong organisational, interpersonal and communication skills.
Qualifications required
It is essential that you have a professional accounting qualification (CCAB).
