About the role
CHASE is the Consortium for the Humanities and the Arts, South East England, and includes the following university institutions: Birkbeck, The Courtauld Institute of Art, Goldsmiths, SOAS, and the Universities of East Anglia, Essex, Kent and Sussex.
As the Senior Research Finance Officer, you will be responsible for the post award financial management of the £22.5m CHASE grant which supports PGR studentships and training. You will work closely with CHASE team members, colleagues in the Research Finance section, and administrative colleagues across the consortium member institutions, and undertake a range of activities in support of the University’s compliance with the funder’s terms and conditions, including: providing management accounting information; assessing the eligibility of spend; forecasting expenditure and ensuring that it is within budget; maintaining financial records; undertaking process review; and supporting best practice in managing grant finances across the consortium.
About you
You will be highly numerate, possess a good knowledge of Excel and management accounting, together with the ability to understand contractual documentation. Your excellent interpersonal and communication skills will enable you to work effectively with the University’s academic staff, auditors and external stakeholders including funding bodies. Relevant experience and possession of, or study towards, a recognised accountancy qualification would be an advantage.
