Birkbeck, University of London, is currently looking for a Demonstrator to support Data Analytics using R. This is an excellent opportunity to support the teaching team on the Postgraduate programmes within the School of Computing and Mathematical Sciences.

You will assist in the delivery of predetermined programmes of teaching to Birkbeck Computing and Mathematical Science students, under academic supervision, to facilitate the successful completion of their studies. You should engage in the scholarship necessary to ensure good practice in teaching and to apply appropriate levels of knowledge in the subject areas to be taught.

You will be employed as part of your general academic development to obtain practical teaching experience and will be undertaking this work independently but in parallel with postgraduate studies.

In addition to the criteria specified in the job pack, candidates must have:

  • A first degree in Computing/Maths or an equivalent relevant qualification.
  • Advanced experience in using a range of statistical techniques and report writing suitable for quantitative psychological science research.
  • Awareness of the needs of part-time adult learners and ability to engage the interest and enthusiasm of students and inspire them to learn.
  • Confident presentation skills and ability to clearly and effectively pass on specialist subject area knowledge.
  • Effective oral and written communication skills, to convey both simple and more complex information and academic concepts.

Remuneration

Payment is based on an hourly rate depending on length of continuous service with the College (starting rate £23.39 per hour inclusive of pro-rata London Allowance and holiday pay) for contact hours worked. This hourly rate is based on the starting point of Grade 6. Marking is paid separately for these roles.
